Hosts

How Plextell protects hosts

More confidence with every stay.

Hosting someone for one month, three months, or longer requires more trust than a weekend booking. Plextell is designed to help hosts reduce uncertainty before, during, and after a stay through identity verification, secure payments, clear agreements, booking records, and structured support.

From the moment a renter requests your property to the day they move out, you have more visibility into who is staying, what they agreed to, and when you’ll be paid.

Protection starts before the booking

Know more before you say yes.

Before accepting a booking request, hosts can review key renter information available through Plextell. Depending on the booking and location, this may include:

You remain in control of whether to accept or decline a request.

  • Verified name
  • Verified email and phone number
  • Identity verification status
  • Requested stay dates
  • Number of occupants
  • Renter profile
  • Purpose of stay
  • Prior Plextell booking history
  • Previous host reviews
  • Additional verification information where available

Identity verification

Know who is requesting your home.

Plextell may require renters to complete identity verification before or during the booking process. Verification may include:

  • Government-issued identification
  • Selfie or identity matching
  • Phone verification
  • Email verification
  • Other fraud-prevention checks

Identity verification helps reduce anonymous or fraudulent bookings, but it does not guarantee a renter’s behavior.

Verified properties

Trust should work both ways.

Plextell may also verify hosts and properties to help create a safer marketplace for everyone. Hosts may be asked to confirm:

  • Identity
  • Property address
  • Ownership or authorization to manage the property
  • Business information, where applicable
  • Payout account details

This helps renters feel more confident booking your home and helps protect legitimate hosts from impersonation or listing fraud.

Secure payment before move-in

No confirmed booking without required payment.

Guests are required to complete the first required payment before a booking becomes fully confirmed.

You should not have to rely on a guest promising to pay after arrival.

Payment secured

You can also view:

  • Amount paid
  • Expected host payout
  • Payout date
  • Future scheduled payments
  • Applicable fees

Automated rent collection

Less chasing. More certainty.

For eligible multi-month stays, future rent can be scheduled through Plextell. Guests receive upcoming payment reminders, and their saved payment method is charged according to the booking schedule. Hosts can track:

  • Upcoming payments
  • Successful payments
  • Failed payments
  • Pending payouts
  • Completed payouts

This reduces the need to manually request rent each month.

Failed payment support

If a scheduled renter payment fails, Plextell can notify the renter and request that the payment issue be resolved. Depending on the situation, the platform may:

  • Retry the payment
  • Request an updated payment method
  • Notify you of the issue
  • Pause the associated payout
  • Provide payment records
  • Apply the relevant booking or rental agreement terms

Local tenancy laws may affect what actions are permitted after a payment failure.

Digital rental agreements

Clear expectations before anyone moves in.

Longer stays need more structure than a typical vacation booking. Plextell allows hosts and renters to review and electronically agree to important booking terms before move-in.

A rental agreement may include:

  • Move-in date
  • Move-out date
  • Rental amount
  • Payment schedule
  • Utilities
  • Included furnishings
  • Deposit terms, where applicable
  • Occupancy
  • Guest rules
  • Cancellation terms
  • Extension terms
  • Property-specific rules

Both parties can access a record of the agreement after signing.

Booking records

Keep the important details in one place.

Plextell keeps key booking information associated with the reservation, including:

  • Rental dates
  • Messages
  • Payment history
  • Agreement records
  • Booking changes
  • Cancellation activity
  • Support records

Keeping communication and payments on-platform makes it easier to understand what was agreed to if a disagreement occurs.

Check-in protection period

Renters can report serious arrival issues without controlling your payout indefinitely.

After the renter arrives, a short check-in protection period may apply.

The renter can confirm:

Everything looks good

Report an issue

If no qualifying issue is reported within the applicable window, your payout proceeds automatically.

A renter does not need to manually approve every payout.

What if a renter reports an issue?

If a serious issue is reported after check-in, Plextell may temporarily pause the relevant payout while the matter is reviewed. Examples may include:

  • The property is materially different from the listing
  • The renter cannot access the property
  • Serious cleanliness or habitability concerns
  • Essential advertised features are unavailable

Plextell may review:

  • Photos
  • Messages
  • Listing details
  • Agreements
  • Timestamps
  • Other supporting information

Not every complaint qualifies for a payout pause or refund.

Off-platform payment protection

Keep payments inside Plextell.

Hosts should not ask renters to send payment through unrelated payment apps, cash transfers, or private bank wires for a booking made through Plextell.

Payment protection

Keeping payments on-platform provides:

  • Transaction records
  • Payment status
  • Payout tracking
  • Refund records
  • Booking history
  • Dispute documentation

Off-platform transactions may not be eligible for Plextell support.

Messaging protection

Use Plextell messaging for important booking communication whenever possible. That includes:

  • Check-in instructions
  • Date changes
  • Payment discussions
  • Property issues
  • Extension requests
  • Cancellation discussions

A clear communication history can be valuable if a dispute occurs.

Condition and damage

Accurate records taken before a renter arrives are what a later claim rests on.

Property condition documentationDocument your home before move-in.

Hosts should keep accurate, time-stamped records of the property before each renter arrives. We recommend documenting:

  • Rooms
  • Furniture
  • Appliances
  • Floors and walls
  • Existing damage
  • Keys or access devices
  • High-value items

This can help establish the condition of the property before the stay. Where available, Plextell may provide a digital move-in checklist.

Move-in checklist

A structured move-in process can help both parties agree on the condition of the home. The checklist may include:

  • Property condition
  • Existing damage
  • Furniture inventory
  • Key handoff
  • Access instructions
  • Meter readings where relevant
  • Required acknowledgements

Both host and renter should complete any required documentation promptly.

Damage and depositsClear rules before move-in.

Where legally permitted, a booking may include a refundable deposit or other approved damage-related security arrangement. Before confirming the booking, both parties should be able to see:

  • Amount
  • Collection timing
  • Permitted uses
  • Claim process
  • Refund timing
  • Applicable limitations

Deposit and damage rules vary significantly by jurisdiction. Plextell does not treat every booking the same where local law requires otherwise.

Damage claims

If a host believes a renter caused damage beyond normal wear and tear, the host may be able to submit a claim through the applicable process. A claim may require:

  • Before-and-after photos
  • Repair estimates
  • Receipts
  • Invoices
  • Move-in documentation
  • Renter communications
  • Other supporting evidence

Normal wear and tear should not be treated as renter-caused damage. Any deposit deduction or reimbursement process remains subject to applicable law and booking terms.

When a booking changes

Cancellations, early move-outs, and extensions, and where the money lands.

Cancellation safeguardsKnow the cancellation terms before accepting.

Each booking should clearly display the applicable cancellation policy. Hosts can review:

  • Cancellation deadlines
  • Renter refund eligibility
  • Potential host compensation
  • First-period payment treatment
  • Applicable fees

If a renter cancels after a non-refundable deadline, the host may still be entitled to some or all of the applicable rental payment, subject to the booking terms and local law.

Early move-outs

A renter leaving early does not automatically mean all remaining rent is refundable. The outcome may depend on:

  • Notice requirements
  • Rental agreement
  • Cancellation policy
  • Local tenancy law
  • Agreed amendments

Plextell can maintain records of the original booking and any approved changes.

Stay extensionsKeep extensions on-platform.

If a renter wants to stay longer, hosts should process the extension through Plextell. An approved extension can update:

  • Move-out date
  • Rental amount
  • Agreement terms
  • Payment schedule
  • Payout schedule

Keeping extensions on-platform preserves the booking and payment record.

Account and fraud

Protecting the account the money lands in.

Fraud prevention

Plextell may use automated and manual systems to identify suspicious activity. Examples may include:

  • Unusual payment behavior
  • Identity inconsistencies
  • Duplicate accounts
  • Suspicious booking patterns
  • Account takeover attempts
  • Fraudulent listings

Some transactions or accounts may require additional review.

Account security

Protect your host account by:

  • Using a strong password
  • Enabling multi-factor authentication when available
  • Never sharing verification codes
  • Reviewing payout-account changes
  • Reporting suspicious messages

Plextell will never ask you to provide your password to another user.

Payout account verification

To reduce payout fraud, hosts may be required to verify their payout account. Additional verification may be required when:

  • Adding a new bank account
  • Changing payout details
  • Changing account ownership information
  • Unusual activity is detected

This may temporarily delay a payout while verification is completed.

Reviews and support

After the stay, and when something goes wrong.

Reviews and renter historyBuild trust over time.

After a completed stay, hosts may be able to review renters. Future hosts can use previous stay history and reviews as one additional signal when evaluating a request. Reviews should be:

  • Factual
  • Relevant to the stay
  • Respectful
  • Based on firsthand experience

Reviews must follow Plextell content standards.

Support when something goes wrong

Hosting does not always go perfectly. Plextell support may assist with issues involving:

  • Check-in
  • Payments
  • Booking changes
  • Cancellations
  • Platform agreements
  • Reported property issues
  • Disputes
  • Suspicious activity

Support availability and resolution options depend on the issue, location, and booking terms.

Emergency situations

Plextell is not an emergency service.

If there is an immediate threat to life, safety, or property, contact local emergency services first. After the situation is safe, contact Plextell support if the incident affects an active booking.

What Plextell protection does not mean

A safer process does not eliminate all rental risk.

Plextell’s verification, payment, agreement, and support tools are designed to reduce risk, but they do not guarantee:

  • That a renter will never cause damage
  • That rent will always be collectible
  • That a renter will follow every rule
  • That a dispute will always be resolved in the host’s favor
  • Reimbursement for every loss
  • Insurance coverage unless explicitly stated
  • Legal enforcement of every agreement in every jurisdiction

Hosts remain responsible for complying with applicable rental, tenancy, condominium, tax, licensing, and insurance requirements.

Host insurance

Hosts should maintain any insurance required for their property and rental activity. A standard homeowner, condo, or landlord policy may not cover every type of furnished or medium-term rental. Before hosting, consider speaking with your insurer about:

  • Rental activity
  • Furnished stays
  • Liability coverage
  • Property damage
  • Temporary occupants
  • Business-use exclusions

Any future Plextell insurance or protection product will be described separately with its own eligibility requirements and terms.

Local laws and building rules

Every property is different.

Before listing, hosts are responsible for confirming that the stay is permitted under applicable:

  • Provincial or state law
  • Municipal rules
  • Residential tenancy law
  • Condominium declaration, bylaws, and rules
  • Lease or mortgage terms
  • Licensing requirements
  • Insurance requirements

Plextell may provide guidance, but hosts remain responsible for understanding the rules that apply to their property.

Host protection FAQ

Verification and payment

Does Plextell verify every renter?

Verification requirements may vary by booking, market, and account. The renter’s current verification status will be shown where available.

Is guest payment collected before move-in?

The required first payment must be completed before a booking becomes fully confirmed.

Can a renter stop my payout simply by refusing to press a check-in button?

No. Where a check-in protection period applies, payout should proceed automatically unless a qualifying issue is reported.

What if the renter stops paying during a multi-month stay?

Plextell can notify the renter, attempt payment recovery through supported payment methods, and provide transaction records. Legal remedies depend on the rental agreement and local law.

What is and is not covered

Does Plextell guarantee my rent?

Not unless a specific rent-guarantee product is explicitly offered for that booking.

Does Plextell insure my property?

Not automatically. Any insurance or damage-protection product will have separate terms and eligibility requirements.

What if a renter damages my home?

Document the damage and use the applicable damage or deposit process. Supporting evidence may be required.

Running your booking

Can I collect an additional deposit myself?

Any deposit must comply with the applicable law and booking rules. Required payments for a Plextell booking should generally be disclosed and processed through the platform where supported.

What if I need to cancel a confirmed booking?

Host cancellations may be subject to platform consequences, renter refunds, and other obligations depending on the circumstances.

Should I communicate with renters outside Plextell?

You may need to exchange certain practical information, but important booking decisions and payment-related communication should remain on-platform whenever possible.
